Sharing Holiday Traditions

Fall is finally in the air here in Chicago, and everyone at the Add-A-Pearl staff is eagerly awaiting Thanksgiving, and kicking off the holiday season.

It can be easy to feel overwhelmed during the rush of the holidays, but when we take time out each day to feel gratitude for what we have, we often realize that the same things that make life stressful are often times also what makes our lives fun and full of meaning.

The rush of the holidays can be a stressful time for many, but I find that taking a little time out to refocus on everything I have, rather than everything I have yet to do helps to maintain calm and balance in my life. Choosing to focus on gratitude allows me to experience the holidays as a joyful time, rather than a time entrenched in deep comparison

In our family we love sharing and preserving traditions. We pass down our family history in the form of recipes, clothing, furniture, houses and of course, jewelry. My mother handed down her own Add-A-Pearl necklace to me, when she was too sentimental to part with her own mother’s pearls. I find myself wearing it most often this time of year. In the midst of basting turkey and handing out cookies, I imagine her doing the same wearing her mother’s pearls.

Women have passed down Add-A-Pearl necklaces for generations, and the tradition remains as vibrant today as it was 160 years ago when our doors first opened. When you purchase a starter necklace for a special lady in your life, you are giving a gift that will last a lifetime.

It also means I get to spend my holidays with friends and family, rather than fighting for parking at the mall. A stress-free holiday tradition that makes everybody happy!
