10 of Add-A-Pearl's Favorite Spring 2016 Bridal Trends

Brides and brides-to-be (and all their ladies in waiting!) take note: The top bridal trends for Spring 2016 have emerged and they’re lovely -- softly feminine with interesting details and statement-making embellishments. And after pouring over the latest fashion, wedding, and bridal magazines, the Add-A-Pearl team presents our Top 10:

1. 3D Floral Appliqués

This modern embellishment adds texture (or more shimmer, ‘cuz you can never have enough shimmer!) to gowns and was all over the runways for Spring 2016 Bridal, reports Brides magazine.

We think these flowers and butterflies are whimsical and pretty - and just as sweet as pearls! Don’t you think they pair perfectly too? We do. Consider a delicate pearl bracelet or understated pearl earrings to complement a gown with these ethereal garden details.

We love the above collection c/o Fashionisers.com that includes work by designers-to-watch: Vineris, Lhuillier, and di Santo.

2. Princess overlays

Fashionista.com notes that many of this season’s most eye-catching gowns have something in common: a lovely full lace or tulle skirt over a slimming sheath dress. Elegant and sophisticated, yet still romantic and ready for swirling on the dance floor.

“Pearl-Insider” Tip? Pearls are perfect with both lace and tulle. Of course, we know that pearls and lace are almost synonymous - all through history, images of a swath of lace and a strand of pearls. But that doesn’t mean it’s an outdated look! Even the most modern styles - like this lace or tulle princess overlay with a skin-skimming column sheath - lend themselves to the crisp simplicity of a strand of pearls.

This pretty pic is from one of our favorites at Add-A-Pearl to follow on Pinterest, Jennelise Rose. Check her out for all kinds of fabulous vintage DIY:

3. Plunging necklines

This spring, says Vogue, expect necklines to drop - great for showcasing your pearl necklace on your special day!

We think these Monique Lhuillier Spring 2016 looks from HoustonWeddingBlog.com, with their deep-vee necklines, floral embellishments, lace details, and princess overlay skirts artfully combine most of this season’s top trends for maximum impact. We suspect these gowns look great on every body shape too, and you can’t beat that!

4. Gorgeous chapel veils

Among the photos of 2016 bridal gowns Harper’s Bazaar shared, we were smitten by the lovely old-fashioned chapel veils. Wouldn’t this style go perfectly with a string of vintage pearls? We love this Temperley London version via Lyst.co.uk:

5. Lavish lace

We couldn’t help but love the lace details of the gowns that made the list for Glamour magazine. It’s so sweetly feminine and timeless (just like pearls!). We think this lace dress by Lela Rose is simply stunning:

6. Tiered skirts

Imagine tying the knot in a freshly feminine gown with layered cascades of tulle, like these examples we found on Martha Stewart Weddings! This one below is from the Jenny Lee Spring 2016 Bridal Collection:

7. Strapless gowns

Harper’s Bazaar had several photos of elegant strapless gowns in their round-up of top trends for Spring, like this clever Zac Posen design (below) that accentuates curves and yet retains a stunning simplicity.

Dressing up a strapless gown with your favorite pearls or either flowers or a simple veil in your hair should make your beloved smile as you walk down the aisle.

Not sure what length strand or style you’ll need for your gown’s neckline? Here’s a fun guide from GlamConfidential.com all about choosing the right piece:

8. Dove grey

Last year’s big color trend saw brides opt for blush gowns if they didn’t want to wear white or ivory. This year’s big trend is a lovely soft dove grey, says Bridal Guide, because it’s “gorgeously moody” and flatters all skin tones. And what works well with grey? The rich natural color of pearls of course! This one (above), snapped by Revival Photography, shows that a darker-than-white tone does not take away from the light, fresh, joy of the day!

9. Bridal suits

Not all girls dream of a wedding gown and the bridal collections for Spring 2016 offered several options for bridal trousers (and wouldn’t a nice power pearl necklace work with a bridal suit?). The Knot shared images of bridal suits that ranged from long flowing trouser legs to cropped or tailored:

Bridal “suits” aren’t new for 2016, mind you. Who could forget how lovely Ellen DeGeneres looked on her wedding day in her Zac Posen vest and slacks -- though, there is a chance it was her megawatt smile that made her look so special:

10. Luxurious, lightweight fabrics

We all remember wondering how heavy Princess Diana’s wedding gown must have been (the train alone was 25-feet!), but this spring designers are opting for lovely fine fabrics like satin, lace, organza, and tulle that are airy and light. Southern Bride features several stunning gowns with the latest trends toward either off-the-shoulder or low backs, cathedral trains, and long sleeves. Classic and elegant, just like your pearls.

As you consider all the different styles for spring brides, don’t forget that not only have pearl necklaces and earrings been a timeless choice for brides for centuries, pearls are the perfect gift for your flower girls. The Add-A-Pearl tradition has delighted little girls since 1854; visit us online now to start building an Add-A-Pearl necklace for your flower girls.
